Drag race videos of this 510 in action (7/16/02)

(5/20/01) I converted the struts from the stock 240Z struts to shortened 200SX struts. This was done to get more negative camber up front as the spindle angle is different between the Z and SX struts. This conversion also requires SX brakes and hubs, as the Z pieces do not work on the SX struts. At the same time I went to a Ground Control coilover setup so I can get a spring rate better suited to the car. At the same time, I cleaned up the engine and engine bay (old view HERE - takes a bit to load). New tires and clutch were also part of this recent work.

Engine : 3.0L DOHC 24v 60 degree V-6. Iron block, aluminum heads, forged crankshaft. Distributorless ignition (Nissan Direct Ignition System - NDIS), variable intake timing (Nissan Valve Control System -NVCS), tuned intake runners. With the computer upgrade (I had to have it reprogrammed for the 5-speed instead of the automatic, so also got the Jim Wolf POP upgrade), rev limiter is set at 7200rpm.

This engine is standard equipment on the Infiniti J30 and 1990-on 300ZX. It makes 212hp in the J30, and 222hp in the 300ZX. Intake plumbing accounts for the rating differences between the J30 and 300ZX.  Dyno runs show 187.7hp@6400rpm and 171.5ft-lbs@4500rpm AT THE WHEELS, which indicates about 230hp at the crank.

SUSPENSION :

Rear - Nissan Competition (Roadster front) springs. 862#/in (212#/in wheel rate). Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustable shocks. DAMB productions "Penultimate" adjustable rear crossmember.

Tires: 195/50VR-15  Bridgestone RE 730's on 15x6 wheels off of a '83 280ZX Turbo.

Weight: 2450lbs, with 55/45 weight distribution

Performance : 0-60 : 5.3 secs. 1/4mi : 13.971 @ 99.75MPH (see 1/4 report, below, or the actual timeslip) (Times are prior to new intake setup and limited slip differential)

Other : 300ZX in-tank fuel pump (added 8/5/00), Autopower 4pt roll bar, RCI 4pt harness, Toyota MR2 seats, 13" Grant steering wheel, 130w H-1 high beams set up w/ relay to use w/ std. high-beam switch. The V-6 swap also required the battery to be moved to the trunk.
