What we're getting into

- - - 5/30/02 - - -

Today was the first fitting of the TT into the 510, and several issues came up.

1) The J30 motor mounts are different that the 300ZXTT. We can re-use the driver's side but not the passenger's. We will also have to modify the existing mount on the crossmember.

2) The wiring harness is different and the portion that comes through the bulkhead is situated to go through the driver' side. The J30 setup went through the passenger's side.

3) The passenger's side turbo actually has more room than we thought (picture). The engine on this side will sit lower than the picture here, but as the measurements indicated before we dropped it in, it shouldn't be too bad at all.

4) The driver's side is a mess as expected. Close to the frame rail, fender, etc (picture). The motor mount on this side, however, looks like we can use it as is.

5) Steering will need to be re-routed as expected. No real surprises here.

6) There is apparently FAR less frame rail modification needed than was expected at the start of the project. It looks like maybe 1" is needed from each side for clearance. Of course we'll know more once the motor mounts are finished.

7) The passenger side looks good for downpipe fitment, the driver's side is a mess with this and, at this point hard to tell mow much pipe we will be able to fit. (Click on red box for close-up).

Steering has been rerouted, the frame rails have been modified, and the motor mounts are done, so the engine is sitting on it's engine mounts and all the clearances look good. There has also been significant work on the intercoolers, which will make a dramatic impact visually as well as functionally. Pictures to follow in about four days...

Two pictures. Captions not necessary...
(large pics are 1024x768, apprx 300k each)

Actually, note the frame rail notches for the turbos.

A little editorial license.

The ECU is back! Programmed for 555cc injectors, twin POP (http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/dualpop.htm)

Programmed as such, I can add turbos with the capacity of up to 500hp without reprogramming the ECU (not that I would ever consider such a thing...)
